The Humor in New Year's Resolutions

Another year passed. Just like that, the merriment is over and the "Christmas Spirit" is already gone though I am still glad that the Christmas air is still here. :)

For the reason that it is still the first week of January, a lot of people are still clinging to trend of New Year's Resolution.

What does RESOLUTION mean exactly?

res·o·lu·tion

  (rĕz′ə-lo͞o′shən)
n.

1. The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination: faced the situation with resolution.
2.
a. A firm decision to do something: made a resolution to get more exercise.
b. A course of action determined or decided on: His resolution is to get up early.

Resolutions, according to the definition above, are FIRM DECISIONS to DO SOMETHING. This, my friends, is the reason why I was always so hesitant to make one. These are not just a temporary thing, not just something you utter simply because it is new year and you are still high on hopes and possibilities that life will be better this year just because it is new year and just because your feng shui master says so.

Resolutions are huge responsibilities. There is nothing wrong with making one but you have to create it based on an absolute  trust that you can actually make it happen no matter what the odds are. It is comic how others would say "New Year, New Me" when in fact, they are not even planning to do something to recreate themselves. If we keep on doing the same mistakes and procrastinate just like before, you have no right to expect for things to get well. gBesides, it is not only during New Year where we can make our resolutions. If you are firm to the decision that you are open to better things, ACT.

Catfight: The Disgusting Truth

I grew up in a society highly encouraging women to respect, support and help each other. I remember hearing about several organizations promoting one thing -- the rights of women. I am not writing to enumerate those rights. This is to let the whole world know how times have changed and how women, who are supposed to look after other women, are now becoming the antagonist in each other's lives.

The unhealthy competition happens everywhere.

Occurring everyday in the workplace where backstabbing, sourgraping, and defamation is very prominent. You wear a skirt or something that makes you feel good about yourself will only get you judging looks from other women. Looks that are probably bore out of massive envy or bitterness that they cannot express themselves like that because they are too scared of what other people would think about them.

The unnecessary competition exists between friends. The comparison between lives, husbands or boyfriends, jobs, children, apartments, hairstyle, purses, lipsticks and the tiniest and shallowest of all things is disgusting. People can be greater or lesser. Some may have more, some may have less, by choice or by fate.  Deal with it. Stop comparing because life is not a venn diagram.

This year, stop getting involved with someone else's husband, stop staring at women who chose not to "conform", stop comparing yourself with others, quit spreading rumors and start setting a better example and LIVE!

The catfight is a disgusting truth. My dream someday is for it to be completely gone. I am not a misogynist. I am a woman who is both the antagonist and the protagonist of my life and others' but now that I am in complete desire to be totally free and happy, I am making my own tiny steps towards change.
